Habitat for Humanity

The Habitat house at 978 La Belle Avenue is nearing completion. Walls are painted, and we are putting up trim, interior doors, and cabinets.  Contact Mary Shepherd at mshep@ohio.net or 330-715-3771 for more information.

More pictures to come as the work concludes and we dedicate this new home...

Habitat for Humanity of Summit County (“Habitat”) is a non-profit faith-based organization that has been building homes in our area since 1987. Habitat works to develop communities with God’s people in need by building, so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which God’s people can live and grow into all that he intends. Habitat homes are sold to qualified partner families on a 20-year no-interest mortgage. Each partner family must invest 250 “sweat equity” hours into their own home, other homes, and educational sessions. Habitat intends that each family should be given the proper educational tools to maintain their home both physically and financially for years to come.

St. Paul’s, in cooperation with the “Common Mission Coalition” (a group of churches in the Akron area brought together by members of the St. Paul’s Missions Committee), started building its most recent house on La Bella Avenue in Akron in the fall of 2015 with the Johnson family.

Using funds from the Easter Campaign for Mission Projects, St. Paul’s not only provides the financial support for the building of the house, but also provides a group of coordinators for the project and numerous volunteers to do the work of building the house.

It is important to the Missions Committee at St. Paul’s that our hands follow our financial support for these projects, and our work with Habitat exemplifies that joining together of our money and our hands-on labor.

This year, St. Paul's will finish building its ninth Habitat house!  As a member of the Common Mission Coalition, St. Paul's will build a four bedroom, two-story home in Akron. It's not too late to volunteer to help! I invite you pray for the Common Mission Coalition and the Johnson family, and to share your time and talents by building and/or preparing lunches.  Contact Mary Shepherd at 330-715-3771 or mshep@ohio.net to participate or for more information. All construction volunteers must be 18 or older.
