The Reverend Mark J. Pruitt began serving as Rector of St. Paul’s in 2007 after serving for eight years as Chaplain and Chair of the Theology and Religious Studies Department at St. George’s School in Newport, Rhode Island. Prior to that Mark served as the Rector of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Butler, PA, as an Assistant Chaplain at the University of Cambridge (Peterhouse Chapel), and also as Director of Youth Ministries at St. James Episcopal Church in Potomac, MD. Mark is married to Becky and they have two children, young adults now, Elizabeth and Andrew.
The Reverend Paul Gaston
The Reverend Paul L. Gaston joined the staff as Assisting Priest in February 2012 after having served several parishes in the Diocese of Ohio as interim rector or associate rector. Prior to his ordination to the priesthood in 2010, he had served for 20 years as a deacon in the dioceses of East Tennessee, Lexington (KY), and Ohio. He has taught at four universities: Southern Illinois, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Northern Kentucky, and Kent State, where he is Trustees Professor. His scholarly interests—the evolution of the doctrine of grace, the poetry of Anglican priests George Herbert and John Donne, and the British hymn tradition—have aligned well with his preaching and teaching in the church, as he brings to St. Paul’s a particular interest in adult Christian formation. He is married (since 1968) to Eileen. Their daughter, Beth, lives in Chicago.
The Reverend Polly Glanville

The Reverend Polly Glanville is a Deacon in the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio. Ordained in 1996 by Bishop J. Clark Grew, she was first assigned to serve at St. Philip's in Akron. After leaving St. Philip's in 2001, she created The Susan Ministry, an extra parochial ministry for the elderly which provided empowerment and education for mature adults. She has worked with parishes throughout the Summit Mission Area and Diocese, providing programming focused on quality of life issues for seniors as well as presenting workshops at Winter Convocation on topics relating to aging. Polly was assigned to St. Paul's in 2004 by Bishop Mark Hollingsworth. She is a member of the Community of Deacons in the Diocese and serves on the Diocesan Council, an advisory board to the Bishop. Recently retired from her secular career, she is the mother to two grown children and grandmother of two above-average grandchildren.
Daniel J. Fortune

In September 2009, Daniel Fortune began his work as Organist-Choirmaster of St. Paul’s. He held a similar position at Old St. Paul’s in Baltimore, Maryland for almost twelve years. Prior to that he was Assistant Organist and Choirmaster at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in Buffalo, New York. He has degrees in organ from Houghton College (Houghton, NY) and from the Eastman School of Music where he studied with Dr. Susan Klotzbach and Russell Saunders, respectively. He is an active member of the Association of Anglican Musicians and the American Guild of Organists. He has a particular passion for hymns and has written many descants, organ reharmonizations, and instrumental arrangements for liturgical use.
Valerie Thorson is an accomplished musician who holds performance degrees in organ and voice from the Oberlin College Conservatory (B. Mus.) and Kent State University (M. Mus.), respectively. As a professional organist/choir director for nearly fifty years, she has served churches in Iowa, Nebraska, Tennessee, and Ohio. Valerie has taught voice at Kenyon College, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and The University of Akron, and she has taught organ at the College of Wooster and The University of Akron. She was Co-Founder of the Chamber Music Society of Ohio, a professional chamber ensemble, and served as the principal keyboard/continuo player for the Akron Baroque Orchestra for nine years. For fourteen years, Valerie served as the full-time Director of Music and the Musical Arts for Akron’s historic First Congregational Church. She retired from that position on June 1, 2016.

Beth has been a very active part of St. Paul's for many years. For over 13 years she has taught Confirmation Classes with Jim Mothersbaugh, and she's also taught several grade levels in the church school. Beth is a busy volunteer in her community and she teaches music part-time at Sts. Peter and Paul School in Doylestown. She graduated from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio with a B.A. in Music Education. Beth is married to Russ and has two daughters, Caitlin and Emily.

Caitlin has been coming to St. Paul's with her family since she was 3 years old. She was actively involved in the acolyte group for many years until she graduated high school. Caitlin graduated from Bowling Green State University with her degree in Music Education.
Executive Assistant to the Rector

Carrie is a life-long member of St. Paul's and currently involved in Altar Guild and the St. Catherine's Choir. She graduated from Ohio University with a BA in Political Science. She spends her free time volunteering for the Firestone Swim Team, reading, and hiking. Carrie is married to Rob and has three children, Tommy, Hannah, and Maddie.

Sherrie has been treasurer at Saint Paul’s since August 2007. Her responsibilities include overseeing the financial operations of St. Paul’s and practicing good stewardship of church resources. She’s been a parishioner of St. Paul’s since 1992 and is active in the Needlepoint Guild, Altar Guild, and is a member of the Vestry. Sherrie is a graduate of the University of Akron with a BS in Accounting and a Master’s in Taxation. She’s married to Mike with one daughter, Emily. She spends her free time needlepointing and cross-stitching, all the while accompanied by her two Pugs, Lexie and Jacob.
Thomas J. Valtman

Thomas J. Valtman, Financial Administrator of St. Paul’s, started here in February 2006 after working in corporate accounting for 30 years. The church environment is proving a welcome change from the corporate atmosphere and it has been and continues to be, an extremely pleasant learning experience. The many one-on-one interactions with so many of the parishioners of St. Paul’s is proving to be a very rewarding experience, both professionally and personally. Thomas lives in Seven Hills (a southwest Cleveland suburb) and is married with three daughters and a small “team” of grandchildren. His hobbies include enjoying the time spent with the family, baseball, bowling, and just soaking up the wonderful Northeast Ohio summer weather.

In September 2010, Laureen McGarry began her work here as our Printer and Graphic Artist. She has a degree in Graphic Design with a minor in Drawing from The University of Akron. She is the proud and busy mother of two wonderful sons and one very special beagle/terrier mix. She spends her free time enjoying nature, painting, cooking, and supporting live local music and art with friends.

Dale Lower, Jr. started work as Head Sexton at St. Paul's in March 2006. He spent the previous 32 years at F.E. Schumacher, the last eleven as Facilities Manager. He and his wife April were married in 1976 and have two children, Christina & Dale III, and five grandchildren.
Pastoral Ministries Administrator
Carolyn has been a member of St. Paul's for over fifty years, participating in a wide range of activities here. She is a Lay Eucharistic Minister, a Verger, and the leader of our Stephen Ministry training. As a trainer for Stephen Ministry, Carolyn recruits and coaches members of the congregation who want to live out the gospel's command to love one another by visiting and supporting those in need.

Todd joined our staff in October 2013 as Director of Development and Planned Giving. His mission includes supporting the growth of the church through the Endowment Foundation. He recently retired from a 35-year career in Risk Management with major transportation companies, where he served in a variety of leadership roles. A member of St. Paul's for over 20 years, Todd sings with the Men and Boys Choir, and has served on Vestry, the Music Director Search Committee, Parish Profile Committee, Dominican Republic Mission Trip, and Habitat for Humanity. In his free time, Todd enjoys travel and reading history. He is married to Diane and they have two adult children, Jeff and Elizabeth.
