Since 1984, ACCESS has been providing emergency shelter to women and children in Akron, along with meals, support services, children’s programming, and connections to other resources in the community. The emergency shelter, located on West Market Street, is open to any woman who finds herself homeless, not physically battered, alcohol and drug free, and 18 years of age or older. ACCESS encourages the development of self-esteem and the attainment of self-sufficiency through its commitment to provide a holistic, safe and supportive environment, and through its programs of housing, advocacy and empowerment.

Over the years, St. Paul’s has supported the work of ACCESS, Inc. through Brown Bag Sunday contributions of toiletry items for residents at the shelter, donation of Christmas gifts for the women and children who find themselves homeless over the holiday, and various other efforts to provide for the needs of ACCESS residents.

For more information about current needs and volunteer opportunities at ACCESS, Inc., see their website at or speak with a member of the Missions Committee.
